The end of an era

On Thursday night Ashley & I finally caught up and watched the final episode of Smallville. It was an episode that I had been waiting over 10 years for, and the conclusion of the episode and the series as a whole was significant for me. Over the past 10 years I watched every episode, and though there were several seasons where the plot line of each episode seemed to have been produced by some formulaic template and the subject matter was ridiculous at best, it was a show that entertained me. Do not pass judgment & be fooled - it was not my absolute favorite show, but rather a show that I kept coming back to because of its dedication to just being on the air and knowing that there was always going to be an episode that I could watch. It gave a sense of reliability that is unheard of nowadays because of industry changes that kept me coming back; it didn't get cancelled when viewership dropped or the subject matter became weird and eccentric, or even when episodes took on a more political tone.
